Acanthus hungaricus is a perennial with an upright growth habit and deeply incised leaves. It can reach a height of 80 to 120 cm. From July to September, it blooms with striking, upright flower spikes. The flowers are lilac to light purple with white bracts, creating a stately and graceful appearance. It prefers a sunny to partially shaded location in well-drained, dry to moderately moist soil. Acanthus hungaricus is suitable for borders, Mediterranean gardens, and as a specimen plant. The plant is fairly winter-hardy.
